This English sentence is a threat and an insult, which I don't get from the Spanish.
Judging from the Spanish, I would say: "You had better keep quiet."

Not necessarily I think,
In Spanish, this sentence is most used as a threat actually. Not so much as an insult, but as a threat indeed.
"You had better keep quiet" sounds just as an advice to me.
Is there some kind of intermediate option?

If it's a threat in Spanish, then you can leave it.
Or "You'd better shut up".

mhmm, I was thinking that'd do better.
