Eu poria uma vírgula: Ela não gostou do cavalo, de início. Ou mudaria a construção: Ela, de início, não gostou do cavalo. / De início, ela não gostou do cavalo.

A vírgula não é usada em complementos ao final da sentença. A segunda construção é literária demais. A última é uma alternativa, mas não vejo problema algum com a forma como está.

Tudo bem, mas, quanto ao verbo, você não acha que ficaria melhor "ela não gostou", do que "ela não gostava"?
