OK, this is translated to
"Why did you paint the bench red?"
and
"Why did you paint the bank red?"

Which should the English be? 'bank' or 'bench'

I can't think of a bank that someone could plausibly be questioned about having painted red.

As Sysko remembers well, "Bank" in German has both meanings.
