Is the second floor the one after the ground floor, going up? Or is there another floor (i.e. the first floor) between the second floor and the ground floor?
I have heard there is a difference between American and European usage.

I live in the US and the second floor is considered the floor above the ground floor. In other words, the first floor and the ground floor are the same thing.
