Should this be changed to something like: The place where my mother was born is located in the east of our country. ?

Yeah this English sentence needs to be changed.

@Dostkaplan
Any suggestions as to how?

Naming the country would help it sound more natural.
My mother was born in eastern Australia.

I thought Raggione's earlier suggestion was acceptable. Or perhaps:
The place where my mother was born is located in the eastern part of our country.
I would retain "where my mother was born" as it uses "where" in a statement rather than in a question which is useful. That was how I stumbled upon this sentence in the first place.

The construction "our country" isn't used much in English outside of nationalist or sentimental contexts. It's also usually not used when you are talking to a third person, because it seems to imply that you are taking ownership of the country and keeping the listener at an arm's length.
You usually either use demonstratives ("this country"/"that country") or you speak concretely about a given country. "My mother was born in the east of the country" sounds better to me.

I have no problem with the term "our country." It does sound odd from an American standpoint with reference to the United States, but if you imagine yourself as a Russian or Chinese (who live in those respective countries), I think it is still a very common term today. Turks often say "ülkemiz" (our country) when referring to their country. After all we still sing "My country, 'tis of thee" every July 4 in the US.

Does any of the CMs for English want to have a go at it?

Apparently not ...

Taking a cue from the Turkish translation:
Annemin doğduğu yer ülkemizin doğusunda bulunmaktadır.
You can change it to:
The place where my mother was born is located in the east of our country.

That was the first suggestion of Raggione 3 years ago. ; -) So I will just use it. Thanks!

Yes, it would fit the German better, I think.
