In narratives Past Simple is also used instead of Progressive tenses to signify state, isn't it?

Es ist möglich, daß der englische Satz etwas literarisch ist. Vielleicht ist das der Grund, warum er nicht adoptiert wurde.

Es geht darum, ob der deutsche Satz eine zulässige Übersetzung des englischen ist, insbesondere, ob sich „sat“ hier mit „saß“ übersetzen läßt.

Der englische Satz ist ein ganz normaler alltäglicher Satz. Er war nicht adoptiert, weil er zum originellen Japanisch-Englischen Korpus gehörte.

In meinem dialektgefärbtem Deutsch von anno dazumal bedeutet der Satz: Sie war auf dem Sofa am sitzen und eine Zeitung am lesen." ☺
