Para mi idea sobra el artículo indefinido un:
un largo tiempo atrás* - largo tiempo atrás

o sino mucho tiempo

Cuando creo que es más correcta es cuando expresa una duración de tiempo y no haciendo referencia al pasado. Por ejemplo: Estuve esperándote durante un largo tiempo. ¿Que opinas?

Lo que sí que sobra es "hace". Es correcto o bien "hace tiempo" o bien "tiempo atrás", pero la combinación de ambas es un pleonasmo. http://origendelaspalabras.blog...uentes_19.html
