En España el techo es lo que está en el interior, mientras que el tejado es la parte superior externa del edificio. Del techo podría caerse una lámpara o un bicho, pero un hombre me resulta difícil de imaginar... XP

Yo tambien pienso lo mismo.
Si leo "Tom cayo del techo y fallecio", pienso que se ha hudido el suelo del piso de arriba y a acabado en el piso de abajo.

Aunque con el "se cayo" cambia un poco. Parece que se cayó por si mismo, por falta de habilidad o accidente no por un suceso inesperado, como hundirse el tejado.
