Насколько мне известно, в латинском речь не про воздержание, а про вынесение решения в пользу обвиняемого.

To Latin speakers:
This sentence means something like "When in doubt, abstain." Does it really match the Latin?

The literal translation is "In doubt, for the accused". It can be interpreted as a version of the presumption of innocence: innocent until proven guilty. Since I don't understand Russian very well (not yet), I can't judge whether this is a good translation or not.
