"Schnauze" ist schon ziemlich massiv, finde ich. Im Englischen steht "mouth", d.h. "Mund".
"Warum hältst Du nicht den Mund?" kann ich einem Freund flüstern, ohne damit zu rechnen, dass er beleidigt ist. Es kommt natürlich immer darauf an, wie man es macht. Aber bei "Schnauze" ist die Freundschaft definitiv in Gefahr.
Aber auch hier: Ich weiß nicht, was im Russischen steht.

Schnauze entspricht dem russischen Wort "rot", aber es passt im deutschen Satz (meiner Meinung nach) nicht gut, weil "Schnauze" im Vergleich mit dem Rest des Satzes zu grob klingt. "Schnauze" passt besser zu einem gebrülltem Befehl als zu einer Frage.

Mir fällt spontan ein: Warum hältst du nicht den Schnabel?
Das ist weder höflich, noch zu grob.

Übrigens: Zu einem Freund würde ich sagen "Jetzt gönne doch deiner Zunge mal eine Pause!" ☺ "Mach doch mal den Mund zu!" ☺ oder "Nun halt mal die Luft an!"
