There are 2 ways to say "how", the subject can be either a male or a female, the "you" he/she's talking to can be a male or a female or several males or several females, and they can speak to each other in a formal or informal way. That's 2x2x2x2x2=32 possibilities. Actually, I realise i forgot a few and I'm going to add them...

actually, it's more than that, because the first "you" that the subject is talking to, can be distinct from the 2d "you" that the subject is talking about, and both can be formal, informal, singular, plural, male or female...

It's because, in this case, English s extremely vague as compared to French, since neither the person "you", nor the verb "have come" indicate any detail about the persons...

I think French is not as precise as other languages that would have different persons for 1 male or female, 2 males or females, and more than 2...

I can foresee that in some languages, this simple sentence might have more than 100 valid translations in the same language...
