"caliente" se usa más para calificar objetos.
Para el clima se usa "caluroso"

"El verano está ..." pero lo está caluroso también en otras regiones.
Creo que el acento pone en la duración del verano, especialmente en Buenas Aires, y no en el verano mismo.
Por eso sugeriría dejar "en verano" (= durante el verano).
¿Cómo pensarías sobre ello?

aaah, ya entiendo, en ese caso sería más correcto
"está caluroso" -> "hace calor"
"En verano hace calor en Buenos Aires".
