代表科學幻想 doesn't make any sense... did you mean 科幻小說?

Demetrius Demetrius May 23, 2012 May 23, 2012 at 1:33:13 PM UTC flag Report link Permalink

I means "science fiction". ^^" Is it OK if I replace 科學幻想 with 科幻小說?

Hmm, there's still one thing that isn't quite right. If you say somebody 代表 something, you mean that he/she represents the whole of it. In this case, I believe the intended meaning is that Lem is a representative/one of the representatives of the genre. In Cantonese, this should be expressed as 係科幻小說嘅代表, or if you don't mind a more liberal translation, 係科幻小說嘅表表者.

Thanks!

I don't speak a word of German/Esperanto/Polish/Russian/Ukranian (I've been wanting to learn Russian though :-P), but don't these sentences all have "fiction" in it...?

Btw, 作家、哲學家同未來學家 might be slightly better than 作家、哲學家、未來學家.

Well, technically Russian (as well Polish/Ukrainian) doesn't have the word 'fiction'. :) They say «scientific фанта́стика», фантастика being a common term for fantasy and science fiction.

And in fact they say "the representative of the genre of science fiction". I've thought "genre" is superfluos (since "science fiction" is already a genre), so I've ignored it in translation.

> Btw, 作家、哲學家同未來學家 might be slightly better

Thank you, I've corrected it.

I hope you do one day. :P

And maybe we can do some sort of sentence exchange ;-).

I've always been a sucker for typography, and the Russian alphabet is just so irresistible... :-P

That would be great. :)

Well, there are many languages written in Cyrillic alphabet (though most of them aren't really widespread).

You might have a look at Dungan (unfortunately there aren't many info on it in the internet):
Вәму зэ фулинни шы могўчили. Ба могу шышон вон хуэй зуни лўшон поди йигә цыви.
(Ad hoc transliteration: Wəmu ze fulinni shı mogŭchili. Ba mogu shıshon won huei zuni lŭshon podi yigə cıwi.)
(Etymologically: 我們在樹林拾蘑菇起了。把蘑菇拾上完回走呢路上跑的一個刺蝟。)
