
Just want to draw your attention that English and Polish versions are very different.
I'm curious what Japanese sentence does really mean.

The English doesn't really match the Japanese.

Is that any better? ;-)

Polish reads: When I CAME, he already left/he wasn't there.

'called' can also be used to mean 'came' in English.
