Hi --> He ???

Of course, you are right)

Why on Earth he did it? Or, maybe, he just cut his nose, not cut off? :-)

Maybe it was the nose of a cake or so?
In my country there is a tradition to serve at communion parties an ice cake formed as a lamb. The celebrated cuts the head of the lamb off and blood (in fact strawberry sauce) flows out...
(I beg pardon for my poor English. I hope you will understand what I mean)

I'm afraid we'll never know it unless the author tell us :-) There is a phrase in my dictionary: "to bite smb.'s nose off" ~ "to snarl", "to talk back" but I'm not sure if it was meant it this sentence.

The phrase is really weird. Is the meaning literal? Like, there is a dead cow lying on the ground, and somebody is cutting its nose off, as the result they cut the cow's nose off?
Are we talking about Photoshop?
Is there an idiomatic meaning?
Anyway, @needs native check
