Pan Kowalski = Mr Smith

Demetrius Demetrius November 1, 2012 November 1, 2012 at 12:00:22 PM UTC flag Report link Permalink

>> Do this mean if you met a Mr. Smith, you'd call
>> him Pan Kowalski in Polish?
No. But if it were some work of fiction, and if this were a charactonym...

(For example, in the Russian version of Harry Potter, Severus Snape is Severus Snegg in official translation and Zlodeus Zlej in Maria Spivak’s.)

I believe it’s more-or-less acceptable as a translation. For those who doesn’t want such translations I’ve added an ‘adapted name’ tag.
