この文は少し不自然に感じます。目の前の情景を描写しているなら「水が日の光を受けて【輝いている】」、水の一般的性質を説明しているなら「水【は】日の光を受けて輝く」ではないでしょうか。
この英文はおそらく前者で取っていいのではないかと思うのですが、ちょっと自信ありません。

リンクされた英文は水の一般的性質を説明しているように見えるので
「水は日の光を受けて輝く。」もしくは
「水は日光を受けて輝く。」のほうがより伝わりやすいと思います。

私も自信ないですが、一般的な事柄を述べるために"water"(特定の水ではなく、水というもの全般)を複数形にした時に形が変わらず、このような英文になるのだと思います。
