Tragedy is a polysemantic word, it may have way too many meanings and connotations. If we talk about, say, a personal tragedy or about a tragedy of some society in the wide sense that caused some hard and painful emotional experience, catharsis looks quite appropriate here. But what about a tragedy in sense of concatenation of terrible circumstances? What kind of catharsis do the people of Oklahoma should experience to overcome the tragedy of tornado, for example?

Сегодня, "трагедия" часто интерпретируется как "печальное событие". Но я думаю, что это предложение не обязательно относится ко всем этим трагедиям.
