The German has "Beruf", CK, and that's "profession" first of all. "Job" does not sound serious enough to my ears. See what the Advanced Learner's has: http://oald8.oxfordlearnersdict...ary/profession
It clearly says "medical, legal, teaching etc. profession". But I'll take your advice and find out what one thinks over here.
If you leave "profession" out, I would not consider it a translation strictly speaking.

I am convinced, CK. Forgive me for hesitating. "My UK friends" agree with you 100 percent, i.e. "profession" is implied. So I took up all three of your suggestions. Thanks again and have a good day.
