Thank you, CK. I can't even remember translating this sentence. Is this version any better now?

The German has "Beruf", CK, and that's "profession" first of all. "Job" does not sound serious enough to my ears. See what the Advanced Learner's has: http://oald8.oxfordlearnersdict...ary/profession
It clearly says "medical, legal, teaching etc. profession". But I'll take your advice and find out what one thinks over here.

If you leave "profession" out, I would not consider it a translation strictly speaking.

I am convinced, CK. Forgive me for hesitating. "My UK friends" agree with you 100 percent, i.e. "profession" is implied. So I took up all three of your suggestions. Thanks again and have a good day.
