
Of myself I would say something like: I have done MY best. - So I think you should have "their best", with a possessive pronoun somewhere. - And then again I suppose the present perfect is called for: "they have done" - on the other hand "they could do" or "they were able to do" seems a good way of finishing your sentence but there is none of that in the Italian as far as I understand it. - I suggest a native check.
