With the "from" in the sentence, it doesn't necessarily mean reading the complete first page. Without "from," it would mean reading all of page 1.

The Dutch says: read only the first page.
For what it's worth, here is Google translate for the Hebrew sentence: "Our world is a book, people who do not travel read only the first page."

Translating the sentence without "from," would also be a "correct" translation of the Hebrew - in my opinion.
In the context of this sentence it seems very unimportant to me whether you say "from" or not.
