肉薄・肉迫
1 ある目標に身をもってせまること。間近に激しく押し寄せること。（例）敵陣に肉薄する／猟犬が獲物に肉薄する。
2 もう一息のところまで追いせまること。（例）首位に半ゲーム差まで肉薄する／選挙戦も終盤に入って現職候補に肉薄してきた。
3 鋭く論じ、相手につめよること。きびしく問いつめること。（例）代表質問で政府に肉薄する。（『小学館日本語新辞典』）

ここでは2の意味で比喩的に使っています。
