No, I will not consider a rewrite because that would change my meaning. This teacher gave us an English lesson in our French class, as a propaedeutic exercise.
If you say "Our French and German class teacher.." that could mean that he made those comments outside of class.

@Pfirsichbaeumchen. It was a rhetorical question. The teacher didn't want an answer, so you can use either a question mark, an exclamation mark or a period. Because it was a rhetorical question I use "said" instead of asked. (We'll discuss the Esperanto version on the Esperanto page:)
