Ich glaube die Wortstellung ist nicht optimal.
Am besten finde ich "hielt sie Maria offen".
Ähnlich heißt es im Duden:
"Kavaliere der alten Schule halten Damen die Türen offen."
— "für Maria" ist wohl auch in Ordnung.

(Ich lasse außer Acht, das letztlich schon der englische Satz ungewöhnlich erscheint. Würde man sich "im realen Leben" so "doppelt-gemoppelt" ausdrücken?)

Du hast recht. Ich habe mich, als ich den englischen Satz übersetzte, bewußt gegen die übliche Wortstellung entschieden. Das kann man ja durchaus machen. Mein Gedanke dabei war, daß Maria größeres Gewicht zukommt als der Tatsache, daß Tom die Tür offenhält. Man erfährt gleich, daß Tom die Tür öffnet, aber man weiß da noch gar nicht, daß Maria dabei ist; also sollte man das als Höhepunkt am Schluß erfahren. ☺
