As I understand it, "Nachricht" is a short message that can be transmitted in written form or by voice, while "note" is a short piece of correspondence that is written. In both cases, the means of transmission can be digital or nondigital (for example, on paper). Thus, "Nachricht" can be translated as "note" as well as "message" or "e-mail". Please correct me if I'm wrong.
