This sentence is scientifically incorrect, correct me if I wrong but it seems both humans and apes (and the other primates) descend from a common ancestor.

Does Tatoeba care about scientific context and misinformation or it is fine to have such sentences because Tatoeba is just translation-driven?

No, Tatoeba doesn't care if its sentences are true or not. You can add "The Earth is flat" and it will be OK. Some sentences which is obviously not true are tagged as "false", but in many cases such tagging is rather tricky, especially if a sentence is related to contraversial and/or sensitive topics.

Right, this sentence is scientifically incorrect because based on the popular belief that our fathers are apes while they only are our distant cousins. I personnally have constantly been taught the first version in school, which depicts how bad can the education system be.

Nevertheless, I think that the linguistic side is more important on Tatoeba because it is a site based essentially on languages, so this sentence has for me the right to be. You still have the choice either to translate it or not, in other words, to peddle wrong informations or not.

Well, australopithecus afarensis was also an "ape", just like homo sapiens.

> just like homo sapiens.

Indeed. At least, Wikipedia tells the same.

Yeah, I just wanted to clarify if it was okay to have such sentences, the example of the Flat Earth made it clear to me, it is not true but it still worth having because it helps language learners to compare how languages relate to each other.

I'm gonna translate this sentence, it is just for analysis purposes after all.

Thanks everybody!

P.S.

education systems are really terrible, this is a sentence that can't be denied... unfortunately!
