Yes, in this case female ("she").

We (in Australia, and I guess elsewhere ?) often refer to cats as "it" if we don't know if it's male or female (i.e. if it's not our cat!). In this case I knew it was a female.

I don't remember, if cats hissed, when anybody stood their tail. Usually they meow loudly...

You are correct, the first noise is a loud noise like a meow, followed sometimes by a hiss (depending on how aggresive the cat is). I'm happy to amend the sentence if people feeling strongly enough about it. :)

I don't think, it should be corrected.
Probably cats do if their tails are squeezed too much. Moreover, we never kept so agressive cats. :)

I would say "stepped on" rather than "stood on". To me, "stood" implies a longer duration.
