« Il n’y a aucun prétexte à… » signifie il n’y a pas même de raison apparente pour dire ou pour faire la chose dont il s'agit. http://www.cnrtl.fr/definition/.../pr%C3%A9texte

Je me trompe peut-être, mais à mon sens, utiliser « prétexte » plutôt qu’« excuse » rend encore plus fort le fait que le criminel est indéfendable, car non seuleument aucune raison n’est valable, mais pas même non plus une raison apparente.

Maintenant que vous me le faites remarquer, cette définition a disparu de la 9e édition. Mais personellement, je l’entends et l’utilise toujours. Pas vous ? Il serait intéressant d’avoir l’avis d’autres locuteurs natifs.
