Can you explain why one person only have one грудь?

If I may barge in, the word you speak of means both 'breast' (that women have two of) and 'chest' (the general area that everyone has one of).

So how many груди does a woman have? 3? ☺

(This question might sound funny, but the whole idea of distinguishing between singular and plural seem funny to me. ☺)

As Ooneykcall mentioned, women do have two breasts and actually we sometimes use "грудь" in plural to reflect this phenomena but more common practice is to use "грудь" in singular as a collective noun, especially when there's no need to distinguish between left and right breast. :-)
