That's a translation of a classical haiku. Maybe for poetry the rules are less strict(?)

Lafcadio Hearn's translation of a haiku.

There is a 1994 NHK documentary about him at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uYGgQefMQGQ .

There was also an interesting 1984 mini-series about him, starring one of the West Side Story actors, George Chakiris. Perhaps you could locate this on the Web somewhere.
