suggest delete full stop before Mary, and after final quotation mark.

Shouldn't there usually be a colon or comma before direct speech?
Tom says, "I love you."
(In the English corpus, they mostly use straight quotation marks. I don't argue with it.)

OK, changed it.

Wait until Pat replies. I'm just an inquisitive non-native asking a question. ☺

As Pfirs.... says, please use straight quotes and apostrophes.
That's what English sentences use here.
If you don't, then the duplicate merging script won't merge duplicates, since they won't be exact matches.

So are you actively encouraging to contribute sentences with bad quoting characters into Tatoeba.
IMO if the “real” quoting characters are available, they should be *always* be preferred over ASCII quotes. It is a bit sad to see you choose to reduce the quality of English sentence typography, only to make a script happy.
Wouldn’t it be better to fix the script instead? And all those sentences which use ASCII quotes?

I think the full stop before "Mary" should be deleted, as the full stop is already within the quotation marks.
I wonder if there should be a comma after "with" i.e. before the second lot of quotation marks. However, I'm not an expert on this and would defer to anyone with more knowledge of this grammar point.
Also, I think the rules for commas etc with quotation marks vary between American English and the brand of English I speak (Australian English - historically linked to British English).

If you insist … lol
