Ĉu ne eblus uzi "unu" ?

Mi uzas "unu", kiam temas pri nombro, aŭ - se mi ne sukcesas esprimi la samon per aliaj vortoj - kiam temas pri pronomeca "unu".
Mi ne havis la impreson, ke ĉi tie temas pri numeralo: en la angla frazo mi vidas "a", ne "one". En la germana ne eblas vidi diferencon inter la nedifina artikolo kaj la numeralo "unu".
Se vi opinias, ke ĉi tie temas pri numeralo, mi aldonos "unu" al la frazo.

Se la angla frazo estus "Tom's parents returned two days early from their vacation", vi uzus numeralon, ĉu ne?
