つい今しがた means "moment ago". e.g.: The sun has JUST sunk below the horizon 太陽は今し方地平線に沈んだ。 Mr. Yamada left the office just now. 山田さんは今し方事務所を出たところです。

I think CK was trying to say that perhaps you meant to write つい今し方 and not ついに今し方

softtoffol softtoffol October 7, 2015 October 7, 2015 at 5:35:06 PM UTC flag Report link Permalink

ついに means "at last", "finally" e.g. Mr. Yamada finally consented to our plan 山田さんはついに私たちの計画に同意しました。
Together with 今し方 , Tsui ni strengthens the idea of "right now", "just a moment ago"

Also, welcome to Tatoeba and all that jazz.

I noticed that you took the Japanese sentence #182172 (as evidenced by the typo CK just pointed out) and re-submitted it as the translation to your #4585669. I do not think that is the proper way to link sentences. It now appears as if this sentence was your own. (And since you are not a Japanese native, this is undesirable.)

That being said, the links are currently a mess and I can't quite figure out which ones were pre-existing sentences and which ones were not.

The best way to link sentences is to ask for advanced contributor status, which you may do after familiarising yourself to this site and its ways.

If you aren't an advanced contributor, it is cleanest to link sentences thus: If you have an original sentence in a language which you are fluent in, you may submit it multiple times, as translations to other sentences. The bot will delete the duplicates and link everything cleanly together.

Basically, what I am trying to say is that you are doing the sentence linking backwards. I'm sure someone can explain this better than me.

Thanx for your comment. I'm not a Japanese native speaker, but I lived in Japan for ten years and I use the language almost everyday .
I just wanted to translate some Japanese sentences into Italian; but I retyped a pre-existing sentence along with the Italian translation. Sorry, I'm new to this sit and trying to practice. Thanx for your comprehension. :-)
