Böyle çevirdiğimizde çocuk babasının öldüğünü anlamış, ama ölüm sebebini anlayamamış gibi duruyor daha çok.

İngilizce cümlede ise çocuğun, babasının ölümünü (yaşı gereği) idrak edemediği anlamı var sanırım.

"Çocuk, babasının öldüğünü kavrayabilecek yaşta/durumda değildi."

Benim aklıma böyle bir çeviri geldi. Sizin cümlenizde de "niye" kelimesi çıkarılınca benzer bir anlam oluyor.

Ben de ikilemde kalmıştım bunu çevirirken. Sanki cümle bu haliyle "ölümü anlamlandıramıyor" anlamı da veriyor gibi gelmişti ama çok da emin değilim. Çocuk birinden bahsettiği için sizin söylediğiniz daha yakın geliyor. Çok teşekkür ederim.
