間違った文や不自然な文を訳してしまわないように、少なくともネイティブを自称しているメンバーが所有かチェックしている文に限って訳すことをお勧めします。そして原文を正しく理解できている自信と自然な表現に訳せる自信がある場合にのみ訳を投稿するようにしてください。

In your settings (https://tatoeba.org/eng/user/settings) you can also turn on the option called 'Display "(native)" next to username on sentences when the owner indicated in their profile that they have a native level in the language of the sentence.' Then you don't have to memorize the names.

By the way, in advanced search (https://tatoeba.org/eng/sentences/advanced_search) there is a check box for "Owned by a self-identified native", which I find very useful. I usually also change the sorting to Random, and optionally exclude translations in the target language (in your case English).

Ah, fair enough.

I just checked, we have 29,198 registered members.

2,962 of these are identified native speakers on http://bit.ly/nativespeakers (which is more complete than the similar page on tatoeba.org).

The last time I checked, about 700 of those usernames had never contributed anything.

Of course, there are still some contributors who haven't identified their native languages for that page.

Part of the reason we have so many non-contributors as members is that the way the home page is set up perhaps makes it look like you need to register in order to search and browse sentences here. (We had over 30 new registrations yesterday.)
