I don't understand much the sense of your comment, since in my sentence is "como un niño" that is the literal translation of "as a kid/like a kid", so, what exactly do you mean? and how could be my sentence improved?.

Sorry. What I meant to ask is if "como un niño" really matches "as a child".
"As a child" means "when you were a child" "in your childhood".
"Como un niño" me parece significar "Como lo hacen los niños" - like a child (does)/children (do)
Maybe I'm mistaken.

If you analize the sentence in English, both concepts that you're mentioning focus on the same idea. The kids do that (splash with rubber boots) because they love it and it's considered like a crazy and funny behaviour in an adult. Check now the other Spanish translated sentence. You could find in Shishir's sentence that he just mentioned "cuando eras niño" and he should have added "como cuando eras niño" since the behaviour is referred about when it's done by adults and everyone assumes that splashing water in rubber boots by children is a natural behaviour for them, and funny for rest of the people.
Regards.
