Ugh, not so confident with the slang expressions, can a native please give it a run-over?
Also still looking for ways to translate "feuchtfröhlich feiern" better than "celebrating with booze".
Obviously informal.
ETA: Would “Tom chundered” catch the overall slang of this sentence better?

I don't know what the German says, but the English sentence sounds very nice and idiomatic to me. The only thing I would suggest is changing "became a great party" to "was a great party".

Thanks. You're right, that feels more natural.
I originally tried keeping it more literal. And in the German the "became"-equivalent kind of implies that there wasn't any explicit plan to have a great party, it rather "happened".
But I don't think I can carry that subtle implication over to English.
