I wonder if "slander" is the correct word choice. Habitually slandering someone seems strange to me.

I don't know Latin, but perhaps one of the following would work.

speaks ill of
tells lies about

I don't know English well enough to judge whether or not "slander" is a good translation, but I'm sure "speak ill of" is a good choice.
