How can you be "offended" by the freedom of something? I understand that you can be offended by _speech_ and this speech may be covered by the freedom of speech.

I am not native speaker so I cannot dig on the subtles of the sentence.
But this is a verbatim quote from an US academic so it is unlikely to be wrong.
"Being offended by freedom of speech" means, as far as I understand, that you
don't like the opinions of certain people that are only possible in presence of
freedom of speech.

That was my understanding too, I'd like to get confirmation from a native speaker.
I didn't realize verbatim quotes are so common around here.

I usually don't contribute to languages that I am not native as I cannot generate
native sounding sentences except for "Tom is cooking dinner". But from time to time
I put some quotes that I find interesting from famous people.
