Мне кажется, без "всего лишь" звучит лучше.

Спасибо за Ваше предложение, но я оставлю свой вариант, потому что а) в немецком варианте стоит чёткое уточнение "nur", которое явно указывает на размытость суждения. Здесь нет чёткого утверждения: красота поверхностна. Скорей всего предложение вырвано из контекста, где речь может идти, например, о телесной красоте, которая "всего лишь поверхностна". И б) на мой слух оба варианта звучат аутентично.
