Bu çeviri biraz mantıksız gibi.

"sonsuza dek" kelimelerinden sonra ilk yüklem gelecek zaman olur. İkinci bir yüklem olsaydı o zaman geçmiş zaman olabilirdi.

Örnek:
They thought that their empire would last forever.
İmparatorluklarının sonsuza dek süreceğini sanmışlardı.

sonsuza dek -> çok uzun zaman

Eğer bu çeviriye İngilizce'si uymuyorsa, o cümlede bir sorun olabilir.

doğru.
mecazi derinlik olduğu zaman birebir çeviri anlamsızlaşıyor.

örneğin "for ages"
age sözcüğü "yaş, çağ, yaşlılık, reşit olma, devir, yüzyıl, erginlik" anlamlarına geliyor.

ama yine de birebir çevirinin tatoeba'da bulunması yanlış olmaz.
okuyan, bir düşünce sahibi olmalı. çünkü düz-birebir çevirinin de bir anlamı var.
