Typischer wäre wohl, je nach Kontext „blau-weiß“ (alternativ „blauweiß“).

Im Englischen kommt dieses "and"-Schema ja häufig for (bread and butter, Bed and Breakfast, nice and early etc.). Im Deutschen bin ich mir mit „und“ da nie so sicher. Man würde vielleicht eher genauer beschreiben. Die Tasse ist weiß mit einem blauen Rand.

Wenn sich das "it" des englischen Satzes zum Beispiel auf die bayerische Fahne bezieht, würde man wohl sagen: Warum ist sie blau-weiß.

(Duden empfiehlt „blau-weiß“, „blauweiß“ geht auch #1545640)

Ich setze den Fahnen-Satz mal dazu.
