Quero especificar que uma escola paroquial foi de pior qualidade que uma escola normal. Os sacerdotes foram professores e ensinavam religión, o canto religioso, a escritura, a aritmética e a leitura.

Hoje em dia esta expressão é usada num contexto irónico, é apenas uma figura de linguagem e não necessariamente significa que alguém assistia uma escola dominical. Mas no contexto histórico pode ser assim.
