
I don't know Spanish, so I don't know the implication of the Spanish, and I wonder if native English speakers ever really would say something like your current sentence.
Note that "The colors aren't adequate." only shows this tatoeba.org sentence in a google search.

I agree with CK. I think "suitable" is a better translation, or even better change it to active voice: "These colors don't fit."
