maybe sympathetic isn't quite the same as "sympatisch."

Is 'likeable' closer? How would you describe someone as sympathetic if not 'sympathisch'?

if someone is "sympathisch", it's easy to like him, he's likeable.
I thought that sympathetic means to have an ability to know or feel what others feel, to possess or show empathy.

*sympathetic* would be something like *einfühlsam*
*sympatisch* is more something like *likeable* as you suggested or *personable*
