das kommt von "post humationem", also "nachdem er zu Humus geworden ist". ;)

Ich habe etwas nachgeforscht und herausgefunden, daß es tatsächlich auf „postumus“ zurückgeht, daß es zwar im Latein des Mittelalters auch die sich von der Interpretation „post humationem“ herleitende Schreibweise „posthumus“ gab, daß diese aber als volksetymologisch anzusehen ist.

Es kommt hier also darauf an, ob man sich am klassischen Latein orientieren will, das von den marmornen Höhen römischer Kultur herabgesungen wird, oder am Vulgärlatein des dilettantischen Mittelalters. Ich persönlich mag es ja einfach klassisch. ☺
