
I think it was decided not to use {.i} at the beginning of sentences on Tatoeba. Also, most people have been avoiding cmavo clusters like {calonu} and instead saying {ca lo nu}. This makes searching easier and might make it easier for newbies to learn.

I was unaware that we had any convention that we were following? Was this logged somewhere?

There was some discussion on the email list, and in general, everyone has been following these conventions.
The only thing that hasn't quite been worked out yet is placement of periods, since they are optional in writing anyway. (I have mostly used them only in {.i}, others have used them a lot more.)

Alright, I shall refrain myself from using cmavo clusters.
