Hier liegt ein Missverständnis vor, Esperantostern.

"The dog walks at heel" bedeutet, dass der Hund "bei Fuß" geht, also weder nach vorne wegzieht, noch hinterhertrottet.

Demnach müsste dieser Satz wohl so lauten: Der Hund ging bei Fuß.

Wie man das "his" in der Übersetzung unterbringen soll oder kann, überlasse ich Deiner Fantasie. Jedenfalls bezieht es sich nicht auf den Hund selber, sondern auf denjenigen, der den Hund ausführt. Ich finde, man kann es oder muss es wohl unterschlagen.

Zusatz: Ob das der beste englische Satz ist, um diese Vorstellung auszudrücken, ist auch nicht unbedingt gesagt.
