Some would consider the use of "was" as incorrect, but even if it's acceptable in spoken speech, it is still ambiguous.
It could mean that you are no longer there.

Thank you for the comment. As I lived in LA for many years I guess I've gotten too accustomed to the West Coast style. My old English Teacher is certainly rolling in her grave right now.
