I didn't know that, thanks. There was no reference for that function in the wiki.

Thanks for including Turkish in the lite version. We need more Turkish-Arabic direct links.

> I don't think this is possible at this time.

This search strangely shows sentences with "of *ing" and "*ing of" both.

https://tatoeba.org/eng/sentenc...s&sort_reverse

It seems the proximity operator ignores the word order in quotes.

However, adding -"*ing of" to that search gives a more refined result.

Trang previously created a theme for the Spanish icon, since the default version is very similar to the Ladino icon and causes confusion to some users.

I modified it for the Kabyle language and it worked fine.

https://userstyles.org/styles/1...-language-icon

You could install it as userstyle or userscript. It reverts the current icon back to the MAK flag in your browser.

The following search shows some random English sentences that are not yet translated into Hungarian, and also don't have the words Tom, Mary, Boston, Australia, Canada, French, John, Alice, Bob, Jane, Dan, Linda, Sami, Layla, Mennad, Algeria, Berber or Kabyle. And there are lots of sentences without them. If you don't like translating sentences with such wildcard names, you could just bookmark this link.

https://tatoeba.org/eng/sentenc...o=&sort=random

I had to add a letter in the search because it gives error without adding some inclusive input. I chose the letter A, which is quite frequent as an initial letter, but you could change it to another.

Thanks for your efforts.

Meanwhile, users adding many alternative translations to a sentence could link at least one of the translations to the other same-language alternatives they have added (if they match of course), so that they could find their way into the charts.

soliloquist soliloquist 29 Οκτωβρίου 2019 29 Οκτωβρίου 2019 - 8:38:27 π.μ. UTC link Μόνιμος σύνδεσμος

Thank you!

The charts now show the sentences with most same-language links. This is useful for monolingual purposes. However, the Finnish translations of #30341 or the Hungarian translations of #8259673 still don't appear as they are linked to English. I wonder if it would be technically possible to include such alternatives, too. In other words, not only same-language links, but also same-language translations linked to a sentence (no matter in the same language or not).

soliloquist soliloquist 28 Οκτωβρίου 2019 28 Οκτωβρίου 2019 - 7:20:37 π.μ. UTC link Μόνιμος σύνδεσμος

Thanks! Just take your time. You can do it the next time you regenerate the other charts.

That's a little bit different than what I asked, but thanks.

I was referring to this type of thing: #8259673

soliloquist soliloquist 25 Οκτωβρίου 2019 25 Οκτωβρίου 2019 - 7:30:12 π.μ. UTC link Μόνιμος σύνδεσμος

Thanks.

Could you also make a chart of sentences with most alternative translations (in the same language)? So that we can see some unusual and interesting activities like the Finnish translations of #30341. They don't appear with the current criteria used on the charts.

I'm not a CM, but here's my opinion.

1- If an incorrect sentence belonged to an active and communicative user, I would just write a comment without tagging.

2- If the owner weren't active, or they didn't respond to comments despite adding new sentences, I would also tag their sentences and wait for two weeks to correct them.

3- After repeating the second step several times, I would send them a PM asking to check the comments left on their sentences. If they didn't answer it either, then I would start correcting their sentences without waiting.

4- If they returned after a long time of inactivity, I would return to step 1.

5- If I become inactive for more than a few months, CMs can correct my sentences without commenting or tagging.

**Using the Vocabulary Feature for Corpus Maintaining**

Recently, I have listed some common Turkish spelling errors as search links. There are hundreds of incorrect sentences. We have fixed some of them, and are still fixing.

https://tatoeba.org/eng/sentenc...omment-1131503

I was planning to check those links from time to time (once in several months), but then I realized that we could use the vocabulary feature to continuously check and monitor all of them at once, like an alarm system. I created an auxiliary account for this purpose and added those searches as vocabulary items.

https://tatoeba.org/eng/vocabul...shSpellChecker

It might be considered as bending the tools, but since this feature isn't used by many people, I wanted to give it a try. Also, people adding new sentences with wanted vocabulary items are usually native speakers, so they can easily notice that those items are spelling errors and ignore them. I think the risk-benefit ratio is favorable for now. If a feature showing who added which vocabulary item were implemented, this would be even less of a problem.

This is true when one adds original sentences in their native language like you do, but not so true with translations. Awkward word-for-word translations are a huge problem, too. It's possible to filter out non-native or unowned sentences when searching, but such unnatural translations by native speakers are not so easy to avoid. We don't have an option to exclude sentences by particular users or sentences with particular tags.

I added translations for that sentence after reporting the issue on the Wall. When I rechecked the search link after several minutes, the irrelevant sentence was gone. Could they be connected? Maybe translating a misindexed sentence triggered something.
